Mosquito Lagoon Fishing Report

May Redfish, Trout and Sightfishing Forecast & Predictions

Mosquito Lagoon Fishing Report

May is here and the redfish in the Mosquito Lagoon are chewing hard. We've had several days of double digit redfish numbers and many of them are well into the twenty pound range. May is still a transition month before the hot summer days of June and July set in and you still have a chance to catch a big redfish before summer break. As the Lagoon warms and kids get out of school the Mosquito Lagoon typically becomes crowded and fishing pressure increases rapidly as hot weather summer vacationers take advantage of the warming trend and summer break.

Until school gets out in late May you can expect some great fishing and even some isolation from other anglers pursuing redfish on the clear shallow water flats in the Indian River and Mosquito Lagoon. One pair of anglers found fish lately in the Pole and Troll zone on the eastern shore near Tiger shoals. "We landed eight redfish before 9:00am and a couple of real pretty sea trout too." explains an angler after a day with Lagooner Fishing Guides.

May Spotted Sea Trout Update

When you can find cooler waters in the Mosquito Lagoon, you'll often find some of the best sea trout fishing in the world. Since the constitutional net ban in the 1990's were implemented the trout fishing has rebounded back and our anglers are catching them by the bucket loads lately. Smaller trout are being caught on the transition edges of the flats where the water drops to 3-6 foot or more with small jigs, shrimp on popping corks or small topwater lures like the tiny torpedo. Larger trout are being caught in the shallower water when the water temperatures get comfortable enough.
