Locating Preachers Island near Titusville
Great Fishing Spot, One Of Many In The Mosquito Lagoon
Tuesday June 27, 2017
We're stumped about why they named Preacher's Island but it's a great starting area for a fishing day, especially if you want to use the Refuge Pole & Troll Zone. The Southern end of the protected P & T Zone lies Preacher's Island which provides shallow fertile water, sandbars and shorelines for poling and electric trolling motor access. Redfish and large trout can often be seen tailing, swimming and feeding around the island and if you're lucky enough, you'll also witness large schools of redfish and black drum in the vicinity.
Some great fishing can be found almost year around in the Mosquito Lagoon, but the slower pace and less practical approach to the Pole and Troll Zone has made a difference in the fishery as a result of better practices by anglers. Sure it takes longer to use your trolling motor or simply pole back to the remote areas, but many fish have found shelter and relief from the constant fishing pressure.

When you approach preacher's island look for deep water areas adjacent to the grass flats where you'll find numbers of reds bunching up or swimming along the edge. Northward to Vann's Slough, you'll be surprised at how shallow the water is and how deep the slough can get. In the winter months the water can be clear enough to see the bottom of Vann's Slough as you enter from the entrance of the P & T Zone from the south channel.
Preachers Island in the Mosqutio Lagoon is one of the many locations that holds nice redfish and trout. Let Lagooner Fishing guide you to the hot spot.
